Public Tours Celebrate Newly Dedicated Las Vegas Meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The public gathered Saturday, May 9, at the newly dedicated meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 880 Crossbridge Drive in Las Vegas.

The afternoon began with a brief program featuring remarks from local church leaders and Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley. Young children performed a special musical number, The Miracle.

Local Priesthood leader from the Red Rock Stake, Bryce Earl, conducted the program and spoke about the meetinghouse’s role in strengthening both faith and community connections. “This is the right place to strengthen our faith and relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ.  For those who are not of our faith, this is a place where we can develop respectful, interfaith friendships, and link arms in good causes to help our community. This is the right place for you and I to minister and help each other as friends and neighbors. This is the right place to organize outreach in cases of emergency or render other acts of service.”

Mayor Berkley reflected on her family’s long history in the Las Vegas Valley, and her association with the Church. “Every passing day and every passing year, I appreciate more and more the extraordinary sense of family, sense of belonging, sense of community that’s encompassed in the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints philosophy, belief and what you do on a daily basis to make this community a better place for all of us.”

Robin Thompson, president of the local Relief Society organization for women, welcomed visitors warmly. “All are welcome to join us. We are trying to make the world a more peaceful and loving place here.”

Additionally, regional Priesthood leader Thomas A. Thomas emphasized the importance of interfaith cooperation and community unity.

“We gather with our brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith, of other Christian faiths, and with our Islam brothers and sisters. We want to gather together with all in our community and we must have facilities like this to do that. We hope this building will be a landmark for this community to come together to minister to each other face-to-face. We hope those that live here will join us in building a community of faith.”

Following the program, the building was open for visitors to tour the building and be informed about how the building is used on a weekly basis. “We are excited to open the doors of this beautiful meetinghouse to the community,” says Shaun Loomis, bishop of the Stonebridge Ward (congregation). “The open house provided a great opportunity for our friends and neighbors to see how we worship and how we implement our programs for adults, youth and children.”

The meetinghouse will serve more than 800 Latter-day Saints living in the area. The building was formally dedicated for worship on April 26, 2026, by local Red Rock Stake President Ian Yamane.

The open house also included a community service effort, with visitors donating boxes of cereal to support a local Las Vegas charity serving high school students in need.

About Latter-day Saint Meetinghouses

Neighborhood meetinghouses, often called chapels, are used weekly for Sunday worship services as well as weekday activities and events. These buildings differ from Latter-day Saint temples, where sacred ordinances such as marriages are performed.

On Sundays, congregations meet for two hours and participate in worship services, Sunday School classes, and age-specific instruction for children, youth, men, and women.

The central worship service, called sacrament meeting, lasts approximately 60 minutes and includes congregational hymns, prayers, sermons, musical selections, and the sacrament ordinance of bread and water in remembrance of Jesus Christ.

Members who teach, preach, conduct music, and lead congregations are unpaid volunteers from within the local congregation.

Latter-day Saint worship services are open to the public and are designed to provide a welcoming, friendly, and Christ-centered environment for visitors and members alike.
