Leaders from across the Las Vegas valley gathered at Creech Air Force Base for a special Clergy Day focused on supporting the spiritual and emotional well-being of military personnel and their families. Hosted by Commander Trevor Merrell and Chaplain Alejandro Urena, the seven-hour event brought together pastors and faith leaders from many denominations to discuss how faith and community can strengthen those who serve our country.
Throughout the day, attendees received training on the unique spiritual challenges faced by service members, including “Moral Injury,” a condition distinct from PTSD that is especially common among people of faith who have experienced the realities of combat. Leaders emphasized the importance of spiritual wellness within the military, sharing the message that a guilty conscience is not mission-ready and that strong spiritual foundations help military personnel perform at their best.
Mark Robertson, the Missionary Liaison for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints over Military in Nevada, presented the base’s head chaplain with a beautiful artwork on behalf of the Church. During his remarks, he referenced the prophet Elijah and spoke about the reality of suicidal thoughts even among faithful individuals, expressing gratitude for the devoted men and women of faith serving at Creech Air Force Base.

The event also included collaborative discussions on ways local faith communities can better support military members, team-building activities, a shared devotional worship service, and lunch together. One of the most meaningful moments of the day was joining together in worship songs and spiritual reflection alongside clergy from all over the valley.
With more than 4,000 soldiers stationed at Creech Air Force Base, leaders expressed hope that this gathering would become the first of many future Clergy Days dedicated to strengthening partnerships between the military and the faith community.
