Interfaith Women Come Together for JustServe Activity to Serve Neighbors in Need

On Saturday, October 10, women from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and University United Methodist Church gathered for a JustServe activity to make items for local and regional charities.

Participants worked on projects benefiting a wide range of organizations and individuals:

  • Tied quilts for the Festival of Trees and Lights
  • Felt hearts for Child Haven
  • Cards for seniors served by Helping Hands of Vegas Valley
  • Receiving blankets for the Children Heart Foundation
  • Burp cloths and hearts for the NICU
  • Bears of Hope for first responders
  • Port pillows for cancer centers
  • Knitted hats and scarves for the Las Vegas homeless

For Gayle Anderson of University United Methodist Church, the activity was part of a long-standing tradition. For the past 15 years, she has made hats and scarves for the homeless and delivered them each year.

“The homeless are so grateful and appreciative,” she said. “They are so grateful they are back each year. The Pastor blesses the hats and scarves before handing them out.”

Jannette Smith of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said service blesses everyone involved.

“I love service because it blesses the lives of those being served, and it blesses the lives of those that do the service,” she said. “I see the Lord’s hand when I serve.”

Each participant left the activity having felt the joy of serving others. JustServe activities give members of the community an opportunity to show their love for those around them and to work side by side with neighbors of other faiths.
