The JustServe Committee of the Skye Canyon Stake wanted to promote service for MLK day this year so they organized an event which was held on January 16, 2023. During this event they asked for members and non-members alike to drop off new/gently used clothing; household items; kitchen utensils and books to help those in need. They arranged for the donations to go to local charities: Deseret Industries (“DI”); Poppy Foundation; Salvation Army; Centennial Library and the Amargosa Senior Center.

Sister Becky Skouson, JustServe Specialist said: “I’m guessing we had 200 to 250 youth and adults volunteering and/or donating. The fun part was that basically every youth or child that showed up wanted to pitch in and help, even if they were primary age and not an assigned volunteer. Everyone really go into the spirit of helping and serving. We had many donations for each organization and filled up the DI trailer twice!”

Ang mga Missionaries mula sa Indian Springs ay nakarating sa bayan at kinuha nila ang mga donasyon upang ihatid sa Amargosa Senior Center doon. Ang lahat ng iba pang mga donasyon ay ipinadala sa parehong araw sa iba pang mga lokal na kawanggawa.

Ang mga bagay na partikular na nakolekta para sa mga lokal na kawanggawa ay:

Deseret Industries (“DI”):
Malinis at malumanay na ginagamit na mga bagay tulad ng: damit, sapatos, alahas,
mga laruan, maliliit na appliances, kasangkapan, CD at DVD
Ang Poppy Foundation (Pagsagip ng Pusa):
Canned cat food (Friskies recommended), non-clumping cat
magkalat, Purina panloob na tuyong pagkain, mga tuwalya ng papel, maliit at malaki
trash bag, cat treat, laruan at kama ng pusa, pahayagan at papel
mga tray ng pagkain.
Salvation Army:
Bago o malumanay na ginamit Kambal at buong kumot, kumot, unan at
puting tuwalya.
Centennial Library Bookstore:
Bago at dahan-dahang ginamit na mga libro.
Amargosa Senior Center:
Mga coat, kaldero, kawali, tagagawa ng kape, toaster oven, palayok,
microwave, walker, adult potty chair, shower chair at
mga wheelchair.

Nadama ng mga event coordinator na ito ay isang matagumpay na kaganapan na nakikipagtulungan sa mga lokal na kawanggawa, lokal na stake at mga boluntaryo ng komunidad pati na rin ang mga boluntaryo na dumating upang tumulong mula sa Indian Springs.
