More  Than 19,000 Items Purchased in the Las Vegas Valley Will Bring Hope and Joy to Thousands of People Here and Abroad

Through the Light the World Giving Machine initiative, thousands of individuals and families will be fed, clothed, educated, strengthened, and become more self-reliant

The bright red vending machines of the Light the World Giving Machine initiative illuminated the Las Vegas Valley again in 2024, as visitors generously gave of themselves to help lift and support someone in need, whether in our community or across the world.

  • More than 3,700 meals will feed the hungry in our community
  • Schoolchildren will receive more than 2,200 books
  • More than 1,400 senior citizens will receive support such as transportation, blankets, and home repair
  • More than 2,500 infants will receive formula, bottles, diapers, and car seats
  • Over 2,800 chickens and goats will provide food and jobs for thousands of families and villagers
  • Additionally, those I need will receive work clothes, clubfoot braces, bed, vitamins, and more.

Launched in 2017 by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the annual Light the World Giving Machine initiative has become a global phenomenon. In 2024, vending machines were in 107 cities across thirteen countries and five continents, impacting millions of individuals and families. Since the first Giving Machine was introduced, nearly US$50 million has been donated by children, teens, and adults worldwide.

About Light The World

#LightTheWorld is an invitation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to transform Christmas into a season of service. It’s a worldwide movement to touch hearts and change lives by doing the things Jesus did: feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone. Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).

The Giving Machines provide a way for people to easily help those in need and to make the Christmas season a little more meaningful for themselves – and for countless others.

Imagine swiping your credit card at a vending machine – but instead of buying a candy bar for yourself, you’re buying a goat for a family in a third-world country to start a business or a pair of shoes for a homeless high school student in Southern Nevada. #LightTheWorld is the perfect way to let our light—and His light—shine brightly.
