A newly formed interfaith group, the Las Vegas Alliance for Religious Freedom and Human Dignity, is sponsoring a symposium, “Dignity in Diversity: Why Religious Freedom and Human Dignity Matter.” The event will be held Thursday, March 23 from 1:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV Thomas & Mack Moot Court Building.
Featured speakers include retired U.S. Circuit Court Judge Thomas B. Griffith; Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo; Senior Law Fellow of the Becket Institute, Angela Wu Howard; and Director of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies, Brett Scharffs.
An interfaith panel of local religious leaders will include Rabbi Bradley Tecktiel, Imam Mujahid Ramadan, Pastor Welton T. Smith III, and Richard C. Gordon, Esq. Also, Past National President of the Federal Bar Association, W. West Allen, will moderate a discussion with Angela Wu Howard related to Supreme Court cases involving religious freedom.
A service project will be carried out in conjunction with the symposium to collect items for distribution to the homeless by Catholic Charities.
Three credits of Nevada Continuing Legal Education have been approved for attendance at the symposium.
All community members are invited, with the hope to deepen commitment to religious freedom and promote civil discourse in the Greater Las Vegas area. More information and registration for the symposium can be found at www.lvreligiousfreedom.org.
